Web page domination gone mad…

Today’s homepage domination at theweathernetwork.com:

First off: how poorly designed the website is all together (that is material for a future post…)

To further destroy usability, readability, design and functionality; TWN shows this home page takeover, for TD CanadaTrust.

It looks as though whoever designed this takeover didn’t take into account the various screen resolutions; or how it would affect legibility of the message itself.

Have a look at the left side of the website (captured at a very high screen resolution of 1680×962 pixels – with lots of page scrolling) – all messages are cut-off. Words become textures and noise – adding to the already messy content from the site.

web page at 1280x964 resolution

Here is the same web page at a smaller, more popular screen resolution of 1024×768 pixels:

Screen size 1024x768Better, but no regard to screen fold lines…

And here it is at a larger screen size of 1280×1024 pixels:

Screen size 1280x1024

It could have been so much more organized and descriptive had they considered proper screen measurements.

And here is the background image – it should have been optimized by considering the two more popular screen sizes, perhaps favouring 1024×768. And also, why not go all the way and use the height to its fullest? the green background ends half way down. Why? refer back to the 1st image on the top of this post to see what I mean…

Executed carelessly, web design and usability can be so unappealing…
